1. Can you help me find a great job?

YES! My mission in life is to help people find work they love and I especially enjoy working with High-Performance Leaders (HPLs) to provide them professional guidance and real career-building opportunities in Japan and beyond.

I have created a program for a small number of "RockStars"—people who are super talented and motivated leaders—so that I can spend the majority of my time and attention on their career growth.

Participation in this top-secret "tribe" is by invitation/application only and is limited to a maximum number of individuals. To maintain the quality of the group I have a 3-person Board of Advisors who screen people for me.

If you are an HPL (see #3 below for some criteria) and would like to develop a long-term relationship focused on your career development, first read through the entire FAQ below.  Then, take a few minutes to fill out the survey or get in touch via email if you're interested in joining my tribe. I'd love to hear from you.

2. What areas do you specialize in?

Though I believe that top performers have the ability to quickly adapt to various roles and responsibilities, I believe it is important to focus on peoples' strengths and passions and to have my own specialized focus. Here are the types of people I primarily work with:

Advertising Wizards
Marketing Mavens
Digital Visionaries
Green/Cleantech Business Builders
C-Level Leaders (CEO, COO, CFO, CMO, CSO, etc.)
Sales Management Superstars

If you don't fit into any of the above categories, please note that I work with a great team of consultants at Robert Leonard Consulting who cover other key industries and I welcome inquires from everyone seeking career-building opportunities.

3. Am I a "High-Performance Leader"?

High-Performance Leaders come from many different backgrounds and are at various stages in their careers, but many of them share similar experience / achievements / characteristics such as:

  • You have a high level of motivation to succeed.
  • You enjoy managing teams of people and have successfully managed teams/companies of 10 people or more.
  • You have been consistently promoted throughout your career to higher levels of responsibility and compensation.
  • You have developed and launched a new product/business unit/company.
  • You are internationally minded and want to be successful at a global level

I have created a short and easy survey covering many of the elements of an HPL to help you see if you are right for the program and to get started if you are. Follow this link  Click Here to take survey

4. What do you do for HPLs?

I can't reveal all my secrets here in this FAQ, but I have created a password-protected online environment for my HPLs where we connect and stay in touch on a regular basis. The environment is completely anonymous with a high level of privacy. In addition to being secure, it's also a lot of fun too.

Time is my most precious resource, and I spend 80% of my working hours on helping my HPLs develop their careers. I provide them with preferred access for phone calls, face-to-face meetings, and search services. I also share career-development insight, market trends, strategic planning tools, etc. with them both online and offline.

The objective is to provide truly bespoke career development services to a limited high-value group of people, something that is very difficult to do if trying to provide quality service to a very large group.

5. What are some examples of HPLs you have placed into jobs in the past?

Due to confidentiality restrictions I can't name the specific individual and company, but here are some recent examples:

Asia-Pacific CEO, Advertising Agency
President, Entertainment Software
President, Brand Consulting
Managing Director, Brand Consulting
Chief Branding Officer, Consumer Financial
Marketing Director, B2B Technology
Marketing Director, Consumer Technology
Marketing Director, Consumer Products
CFO, B2B Technology
Group Account Director, Advertising Agency
Director of Communications, Financial Services

These are just examples of some successful placements I've made at Robert Leonard Consulting over the last couple of years. Please note that I also work with mid-level managers and I enjoy placing up-and-coming talented people in roles such as Marketing Manager, Brand Manager, Business Development Manager, etc.

6. If it is a top-secret "tribe" how can I get more information and join?

Confidentiality is critical to my business and I take it very, very seriously. That is why I can't publicly reveal too much information about the work that I do. If you would like to have someone to work with you closely on your career development and you think you're qualified to join my HPL tribe, please get in touch with me via the survey in #3 above, or via email at gary(at)robertleonard.jp.

I'll be happy to get back to you and set up a time to talk so that I can explain how you can benefit by being part of this small group of leaders. Please note, however, that I have a 3-Person Board of Advisors decide for me on who can join. This keeps my personal and professional relationships separated from the process as I truly do want to help everybody, but have come to realize that I am most effective when working with a limited number of people.

7. How much does it cost to be in your tribe?

It costs nothing to participate in the HPL tribe, unless at some point in the future the group decides collectively to create a funding mechanism to ensure that the business model survives and remains small enough to deliver real value.

I make my living from recruiting fees from clients and my clients are happy to pay me for qualified candidates that I know well (most recruiters don't really know their candidates well) and understand how they'd be a great fit for the client's needs.
